The Disability Tax Credit by province and territory

The application is federal and identical everywhere. What changes is how it interacts with your province's own disability programs, and what the approval is worth once it is granted.

The thing most people get wrong, in both directions:

Your province's disability program and the federal DTC are, in almost every jurisdiction, entirely separate. Being on one does not grant the other. The CRA says so directly: eligibility "is not impacted by the receipt of other federal or provincial benefits".

But the provincial tax amount works the opposite way. Once your federal application is approved, the CRA automatically adjusts your returns to include both the federal and provincial disability amounts. There is no separate provincial application anywhere in Canada.

We have deliberately not put the provincial amounts side by side. Each jurisdiction multiplies its amount by its own lowest tax rate, so the base figures are not comparable and a league table would mislead. Each amount appears on its own page with that caveat. How the amounts actually work.
