DTC Prep

About DTC Prep

A small, independent service that prepares the documentation a medical practitioner needs in order to complete a Disability Tax Credit application. That is the whole of it.

What we are not

This matters more than what we are, so it goes first.

We do not determine whether you qualify, we do not give medical opinion, and we do not guarantee approval. Nobody can honestly do the first or the third.

Who runs it

DTC Prep is run by one person, its Founder and Privacy Officer, based in Alberta and serving applicants across Canada. There are no staff and no contractors, which is also why nobody else can see your information.

We publish a title rather than a personal name. The postal address for privacy matters, and the route to complain over our head to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, are both on the privacy page. If you would rather deal with a named individual before sending anything, email us and ask.

You can reach us at [email protected], and the postal address for privacy matters is on the privacy page. Replies come from a person, not a ticketing system.

Why this is not abstract to me

I have been through this application with someone in my own family, from the first blank page through to an approval.

Not as a professional. As the person sitting with a blank Part A, trying to describe what an ordinary day actually looks like for someone I love, and finding that the words I would use are not the words the form is asking for.

I am not going to publish their name or their diagnosis. You would not want me publishing yours.

I mention the outcome for one reason. This is a new service with no customers and no reviews, and you are being asked to trust it with something that matters. The one thing I can honestly offer is that I have taken this process all the way to the end rather than read about it.

What that taught me is the thing this service is built on. The hard part is not the CRA, and it is not the paperwork. The hard part is putting function into words, and getting to a ten minute appointment with something better than a blank form.

That approval was ours, and it is not a promise about yours. It was one application, for one person, in our own family, and it was not work done for a customer. We will do our best work on your documentation. We cannot make any claim about your eligibility, about what your practitioner will certify, or about what the CRA will decide. Nobody honestly can, and the CRA decides every application on its own facts.

Everything else on this page is a fact you can check. This part is the one thing on this site that you cannot, so I have kept it to what I am willing to stand behind.

Why this exists

The CRA's own figures explain it better than we could. Only 17% of people who start a Disability Tax Credit application ever complete and submit Part B, while 96.6% of applications that are completed get approved.

So the thing going wrong in this market is not that people are refused. It is that people give up partway through. That is what this service is for: not improving your odds, which we could not honestly claim, but helping the application actually get finished.

The CRA's Disability Advisory Committee has recommended that the CRA "develop an optional self-assessment form as a component of Part A, allowing individuals with lived and living experience to provide information about their disability and limitations on activities of daily living for practitioner review." That describes this service, and we did not write it. More on what approval leads to.

How to check us

We have no customers yet, so we have no testimonials, and we are not going to invent any. What we offer instead is that every factual claim on this site can be checked.

How we are paid

A flat CAD 299, stated before you start anything, and not a percentage of your refund. We are not paid by any other organisation, we take no referral fees, and we do not sell or share your information. What that fee covers, and what it does not.
